About the role

Shopify’s Total Rewards team is responsible for building our global compensation, benefits, and mobility programs. At Shopify, we are a pay-for-impact company. Our leaders empower their teams with the autonomy and support they need to write their own story and deliver high impact outcomes. We place a high value on an employee’s level of impact and performance when determining compensation. Although we value frameworks, we aren’t confined to them.

About the role:

We’re looking for a Lead, Executive Compensation, with experience running analysis, coordinating with stakeholders, and drafting presentation materials to join our Total Rewards team. You will partner with our compensation leadership team to build compelling narratives and simplified portrayals of complex and sensitive data. You will be a critical part of ensuring the successful delivery of executive compensation programs in support of our overall rewards strategy. At Shopify, you won’t hear “because that’s just how we do it.” Instead, you will be constantly changing, challenging, and evolving ideas, and looking for the best way to build for the future.

To be successful in this role, you must be someone who thrives working on a lean, fast-paced, and strategic team. You must have strong experience with (and a penchant for) leadership, and be adept at leading teams, juggling competing priorities, and working creatively and efficiently to get stuff done. You must be curious and enjoy digging into processes and systems to challenge the status quo. We want someone who is a self-proclaimed executive compensation geek, and who is sincerely excited by executive compensation principles, as well as successfully executing thoughtful executive compensation programs on a broad scale.

At Shopify we break the mold, stretch the limits, and raise the bar. You will work with smart, engaged colleagues who care deeply about their work, their teammates, and their stakeholders, and we can guarantee that you will never stop learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of analysis and materials for the quarterly Compensation Committee meetings.
  • Lead programs and projects in the areas of executive/board compensation and equity.
  • Optimize and design our executive compensation programs for a global, Digital by Design (read: remote) world.
  • Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders (Leaders, Finance, Legal, Talent).
  • Evaluate our existing global executive compensation programs to identify opportunities to reward our most valuable assets: our people.
  • Contribute to the design and compilation of the annual proxy statement.
  • Evolve our compensation and equity tools.

Qualifications

  • In depth experience with and strategic understanding of global compensation & equity programs; typically gained through 8+ years of prior experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in executive and board compensation.
  • Experience leading and managing global teams, and projects, as well as managing multiple priorities, stakeholders and deadlines.
  • Experience authoring board and committee materials.
  • Proficiency with Excel and other data analytics tools (Mode, Google Analytics).
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently on an individual basis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong High Tech market knowledge (nice to have).

We know that applying to a new role takes a lot of work and we truly value your time.

This posting will close on Thursday, June 9th @ 11:59pm EST.
