Become a part of the Microsoft Cloud Hardware Infrastructure and Engineering team (CHIE). CHIE is creating the latest hardware and software solutions to support Microsoft’s Cloud computing and storage solutions supporting our global data centers. As a Senior Power Engineer you will be involved in helping architect, develop and qualify new solutions and platforms to improve performance, cost, reliability and efficiency at the server, Rack and Row level. 


  • Work closely with multiple server Platform teams to create and support state of the art power solutions and delivery for numerous parallel program developments.
  • Work with Rack level development programs to develop and support leading edge power delivery and conversion solutions at the rack to server level. 
  • Support system engineering, Mechanical Engineering and global integration partners in executing new designs.
  • Be a power subject matter expert to internal and external CHIE partners to resolve issues and obstacles as they arise in development and production.
  • Work with Data Center Engineering and management to support/suggest infrastructure changes and improvements.
  • Position requires working with and developing relationships with Microsoft internal quality, reliability, Agency, supply chain and Data center teams to ensure a smooth product delivery from concept to end of life.
  • Position also requires support of PDU’s, UPS’s, Power conditioners, Circuit Breakers, Bus Bars, Battery Backup, ATS’s.
  • Position requires ability to create specifications, and ability to test and support testing of all solutions in all stages of development.





  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or related field
  • 5+ years of firmware experience (embedded systems)
  • A basic understanding of power electronics, especially AC/DC and DC/DC converters
  • Knowledge of I2C/UART/SPI bus protocols
  • Comfortable using lab equipment including oscilloscopes, logic probes, bus analyzers, network analyzer, DMMs, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary groups
  • Experience working with overseas engineering groups and vendors
  • Familiarity with server and rack power and communications architecture.



  • MS or higher in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science 
  • Familiarity with PMBus standard 
  • Familiarity with data center equipment and operations
  • Familiarity with Kusto and Azure DevOps 
  • Ability to instrument and test communications internal to a server and between server and external equipment.
  • Knowledge of I2C and PMBUS communications and troubleshooting.
