As a Senior Compensation Consultant, you will be supporting compensation-focused programs and initiatives and will assist with the development, communication, and execution of these programs in support of your assigned client group which will be either Microsoft US sales subsidiary (MSUS), or several engineering organizations. This role will partner with our HR colleagues in business to proactively identify compensation needs on a current and forward looking basis. You will create and present comprehensive analysis to identify and assess compensation issues in the business and to provide market competitive, business aligned solutions using internal and external tools and resources.

Responsibilities

Compensation Education & Consultation

  • Consults with internal partners on situations in which customized solutions (e.g., retention, competitive offers) may be necessary. Creates solutions and advises HRBP on customized compensation design and implementation as appropriate.
  • Independently handles the most complex compensation questions (e.g., Tier IV escalations) from internal executive clients (e.g., Senior Leadership team) and delivers solutions, often in ambiguous or unusual circumstances. Coaches internal partners on compensation-related decisions, including regulatory implications and mitigation strategies.
  • Develops onboarding and training materials to educate HR partners on compensation programs, policies, and practices. May deliver training to audiences across the organization and to internal partners (e.g., HR Consulting, HRBP, etc.)

Program Design & Adaptation

  • You identify the need for change based on external market, builds and communicates business case for new or changing compensation programs (e.g., promotions, stock awards, base pay, recognition, in-business programs), and facilitates the acceptance of the overall costs, principles, and impact of proposed changes with senior executives in partnership with HRBP.
  • You Lead compensation design and adaptation processes that synthesize market information. Interprets new/emerging legislation and industry trends. Anticipates and considers business needs while ensuring cross-program alignment. Gains support from leadership for an in-business compensation program (e.g., a specific local program) by partnering with HRBP. Identifying resources required and applying best practices.

Program Implementation

  • You act as a thought leader for all things compensation for business HR teams across Engineering and Research space. Coaches and suggests modifications to implement project plans developed by their teams. Provides guidance and supports key compensation activities that are led by HRBP (e.g., special stock, rewards, in-business programs, etc.)

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 6+ years of directly related compensation work experience OR 7+ years of general HR experience or other related work experience OR Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field with 5+ years of related work experience

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of directly related compensation work experience AND Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field
  • Compensation project management experience
  • Compensation program design experience
  • CCP certificatiion

 The salary for this role in the state of Colorado is between $113,900 and $187,700

 

At Microsoft, certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
