Bigpark, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada, is part of the Office Media Group inside the Experiences + Devices division. Our team is looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to join our cross-discipline design and development team improving Photos experiences in Windows ecosystem, OneDrive and other parts of M365. You are passionate about working with your design, art, data science and software development colleagues to deliver clear engineering priorities. You know how to develop a high-performance team and its supporting processes to balance predictability in delivery and innovation. You do this by creating an environment in which the team and product flourish.  

 

You are self-directed and collaborative, passionate about customers and committed to delivering high impact results. You have excellent strategy formulation and partner management skills, a passion for user-focused product development and proven track record for supporting high-performing, high-impact teams. 

Responsibilities

Lead teams of Software Engineers to build and maintain multiple Windows applications. 

Manage risks around the security and privacy of our applications. 

Organize and optimize the test, build and release processes of our software. 

Collaborate with teams across Microsoft, identify and drive requirements that enable your team’s work and enhance value for all Microsoft customers.  

Work with the engineering teams to drive services towards resilience and excellence.  

Mentor and grow a diverse and highly collaborative team. 

Leverage user research, data analysis and customer outreach to define product strategy and roadmap over a 2-3 year horizon. 

Evangelize customer value, collaborate on approach and influence product roadmaps for first-party partner media experiences. 

Manage partner relationships and deliverables across multiple first-party teams. 

Deliver product impact to customers through new experiences, application updates and service improvements. 

Effectively communicate program goals, status, risks, and plans to a Director and CVP audience. 

Qualifications

10+ years of software development experience. 

3+ years of experience leading large engineering teams, or multiple teams. 

Have worked through the full product development cycle from initial design through launch and into live operations. 

Exceptional communication skills to all levels, internal and external, including Sr executive; ability to successfully communicate complex ideas. 

Familiarity with navigating large, complex organizations. 

Comfortable dealing with the ambiguity of new products, scenarios and incubation work. 

Some US and international travel may be required (post-COVID) 

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   

Experience with C++ and C#. 

Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript. 

Experience with modern, single-page web apps and/or PWAs. 

Experience with React & Flux/Redux is helpful. 

Experience working with modern version control systems like Git 

Comfortable working cross-platform: Windows, iOS, Android, MacOS / Edge, IE, Safari, Chrome 

Agile methodology experience 

Being an enthusiastic consumer of photo/video capture, organization, editing and sharing apps is an asset.
